Rashid Ahmed Rifat is an accomplished engineer hailing from Bangladesh, a country known for its abundant rivers and captivating natural beauty. His affinity for mathematics and physics since childhood paved the way for his pursuit of an engineering degree. Having successfully completed his O & A Levels in Dhaka, Rifat furthered his education at Independent University, Bangladesh, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
As a dedicated researcher, Rifat has garnered extensive experience in various domains, including supercapacitors, battery testing, materials & electrochemical characterization, photonics, and renewable energy. With over three years of service as a Research Assistant, he demonstrated a keen interest in advancing technological frontiers.
Post-graduation, Rifat expanded his horizons by delving into the engineering realm at Caterpillar Inc. (BanglaCAT), specializing in the generator division with a focus on energy-related projects. His commitment to academic excellence led him to pursue a master's degree in
Smart Systems Integrated Solutions (SSIs), during which he had the privilege of studying at three different European universities. Notably, Rifat is a recipient of the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship, fully funded by the European Union.
Right after his master's study, Rifat joined as a Researcher at
nanoCaps, a Norwegian-based startup at the forefront of manufacturing cutting-edge
supercapacitors and electrode materials for enhanced energy storage capacity.
Since January 2024, Rifat embarked on his Ph.D. journey as a researcher with the Battery Innovation Centre Team at MOBI research centre, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He is currently working on the EU project THOR, focusing on the development of an innovative methodology for battery testing. Rifat's doctoral research is centered on the electrochemical aging model of Li-ion battery systems, showcasing his deep interest and expertise in battery modeling, electrochemistry and energy storage technology.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Rifat finds joy in traveling, music, socializing with friends, reading books, and actively participating in volunteer work for social events. He loves to travel, explore and talk about science, history, culture, and geopolitics.
Looking ahead, Rifat envisions establishing a tech company centered around smart energy solutions for the people of Bangladesh. Additionally, he harbors aspirations to launch a technical teaching platform aimed at empowering underprivileged students in his homeland. He is a visionary professional with a multifaceted commitment to both technological advancement and societal betterment.
